NEC Computers, the leading IT solutions provider, is celebrating its fourth year of success in supplying the world-renowned Edinburgh International Film Festival (EIFF) with its latest computing and display solutions. As Official IT Sponsor of the event which took place between 18th – 29th June, NEC provided a complete solution, including IT and communications infrastructure for the central press and delegate hub, remote box offices and badge/ticket distribution systems, in addition to providing large scale public displays and a digital cinema projector.
During the festival, thousands of industry delegates, journalists and guests descended on Edinburgh to take part in the event. NEC equipped the press and delegate centre with a full computing infrastructure including PowerMate desktop PCs, Versa notebooks and Express5800 servers. For those with their own notebooks, a fast and secure wireless hotspot allowed them to undertake research, write articles, connect to the internet and send digital photographs. This network, which included Intel vPro technology, was managed by NEC’s latest software release – NEC System Area Manager.
For the second year running NEC provided digital telephony to the site with the newly launched SV8100 VoIP system, enabling festival staff to communicate efficiently using state-of-the-art technology, and allowing the flexibility that the event demands. NEC also provided a top of the range cinema-class digital projector – the NC2500S – to allow the festival to show its films in the best digital quality possible. Coupled with several large format public displays, this re-enforces NEC’s commitment to providing the best technology at every stage.
NEC will once again employed two local university IT students to provide on-site technical support and ensure a continuous, smooth operation.
David Newbould, UK Product Marketing Manager for NEC Computers said; “With innovation sitting at the heart of the NEC strategy, both in technological and relationship terms, the Edinburgh International Film Festival is an ideal partnership for us both. The Film Festival provides a unique and far reaching platform to showcase some of the latest NEC technologies and we hope to continue strengthening our relationship with the Festival and achieve ever-higher levels of media and delegate accessibility, efficiency and satisfaction.”
Commenting on the partnership, Louise Donoghue, Development Manager at the Edinburgh Film Festival, emphasises, "NEC have been the festival’s official IT sponsor for four years and their experience in supplying and managing highly reliable IT infrastructures for prestigious events has been invaluable. EIFF and NEC have built a strong partnership that continues to grow and the specialised team at NEC have offered additional equipment year on year, to meet the needs of EIFF and to allow our home grown and international filmmakers to access the latest wireless technology."
